1st Sunday of Lent
The Ladies Sodality is having a bake good sale today after Mass. They are tempting us on the 1st Sunday of Lent. Jesus is led by the Spirit into the desert. Jesus fasts for forty day and then is tempted by the devil. The devil in sacred scripture is one who deceives. The devil attempts to deceive or distract Jesus from the mission entrusted to him as God’s beloved Son. Jesus is tempted to gratify his own physical hunger, to control people for his own purpose, and to test God to save him. Jesus endures human temptations and remains faithful. During the season of Lent we must pray for the same Holy Spirit to strengthen our relationship with God and our resolve to do God’s will. We must ask ourselves: “How does our being God’s beloved child translate into our care and compassion for neighbor?†We also pray for the Holy Spirit to guide the Cardinals who will be assembling in conclave at the Vatican to elect the next Pope.
