25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Pope Benedict is in England to beatify John Henry Newman. Newman was a priest, pastor and preacher in the Anglican Church and a great scholar/professor at Oxford. He searched for the truth. He found truth in Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church! His prayer/poem speaks of a "kindly light" showing us the way and leading us to God. Blessed John Cardinal Henry Newman is a patron saint for converts. Yesterday our community welcomed one catechumen and three candidates into the assembly to begin a process where they will learn more about the faith and will discern whether or not God is calling Pam to be baptized and Cassandra, Rachel and Linda to receive the Easter Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion.Today two little baby girls -- Annalee Therese and Ava Grace -- were baptized during Mass. Our mission as a parish is to create a faith community of love and hope, of prayer, welcome and service where others will discover in and with us that Christ is life. After the homily on Saturday, the catechumen and candidates found a quiet place with their catechist to reflect on the readings. In the 1st reading Amos, a Jewish prophet, speaks out against those who exploit the poor. St. Paul in the 2nd reading urges Timothy and his community to pray without anger or arguments. In the Gospel Jesus tells us we must choose between God or money. These reading from the Bible form us as a community and are the lessons for those wishing to become Catholic. We pray that God's kindly light will lead us to truth and life in Jesus Christ.
