Both Isaiah and John “the Baptist†call us to “prepare the way of the Lord.†A question we ask during Advent is: “How can we prepare the way of the Lord?†St. Paul prays for the Church at Philippi to increase and continue in love with knowledge and perception to discern “what is of value†to better welcome Jesus Christ. We are caught up in a frenzy of buying things before Christmas because we are told it will make us happy. A particular gift may bring a certain measure of satisfaction and excitement but how long does that feeling last? True happiness and inner joy come from giving ourselves to others in love, caring and forgiveness. I share with you an e-mail I received recently of children giving examples of love. Bobby (age 7) writes: “Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and just listen.â€
