The precious moment on the mountain is named transfiguration. We can call it "transparency" when God's glory shines in and through Jesus. Jesus appears in conversation with Moses and Elijah as if so say Jewish law and prophesy find fulfillment in the person, message and ministry of Jesus. When Jesus, Peter, James and John come down from the mountain they journey together to another elevated place -- Calvary. A mount where Jesus appears disfigured. The disciples are challenged to see God in him bloodied and humiliated on the cross. Faith will lead to resurrection and transfiguration -- Easter life for Jesus and all who are transformed in him. Lent is the season of transfiguration or transformation, here, in the assembly, and in the world, when we bring the healing, love, forgiveness and peace of Jesus. Catholic Charities embodies this mission of transformation by providing human services for persons and families in critical need. In 2011, Catholic Charities served over 140,000 people -- over half (80,000) are children, teens and seniors. On behalf of those who receive compassionate and professional care I express their gratitude for your generous support of the 2012 Appeal. The patron saint is Blessed John Paul II.
