All three reading express hope for heaven. I asked Matt at the 11:30 AM Mass: "What is heaven?" He responded: "Heaven is where God lives!" Pope Benedict recently remarked: "Heaven is not a place in the cosmos but a place in God." We cannot see heaven by using the Hubble telescope or be transported there through a cosmic worm hole travelling at the speed of light. If heaven is where God lives, we can enter even before we die. "God so loved the world that he gave us his only Son that we may not perish but enjoy eternal life." Hope for heaven should not distract us from affairs on earth. Eternal life is always God's gift but we must use wisely the time God gives to us. Jesus speaks of utilizing our talents and being good stewards of all that has been entrusted to us. We inaugurate the Kingdom of Heaven by our fidelity, integrity and compassion for our neighbor. As good stewards we must live with gratitude and generosity.
