Palm Sunday

Each passion narrative is a portrait of Jesus in his last hours. There are many common elements but Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, the four evangelists, paint Jesus with slightly different strokes and colors. In the Passion today, Luke recalls: Jesus healing the severed ear of the servant of the High Priest in the Garden; Jesus consoling women on the way; and Jesus promising Paradise to the repentant thief crucified next to him. Luke reminds us that Jesus died as he lived: healing, consoling and forgiving! I invite all to participate in the great three day or Triduum commemoration of the Paschal Mystery: 7:30 PM Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday; 3:00 PM Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion; 8:00 PM Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday; and 8, 10 and 11:30 AM Easter Morning Masses. Let us join the women in Scripture who watched at the cross and near the tomb and then returned early Sunday morning. With them, our sadness will be transformed into Easter joy and new life.
